Biography
Yvonne Sanchez, born in Poland to a family of Polish and Cuban roots, launched her musical life as a percussionist alongside prominent national figures including Józef Skrzek. That beginning proved short-lived, however, as she soon relocated to neighboring Germany. Performance eventually drew her back, this time to Prague, where she appeared as a vocalist. Her first stage appearance there in 1995 marked the start of a swift climb that culminated in the Czech jazz community naming her Vocalist of the Year in 1998. She issued her debut album, Invitation, in 2001; the recording broadened her jazz base with Latin music, bossa nova, and samba, earning a nomination for a Czech Grammy Award. Four years later came My Garden, her second release and a project more firmly rooted in jazz.
