Zaiko Langa Langa

Among the leading acts within the Congolese New Wave, ZLL belongs to a loose alliance of as many as twenty musicians who modernized soukous by charging it with a nearly electric drive. Their decisive step was to drop the horn section that had shaped Congolese music until then, producing a noticeably bolder and younger texture. The initials ZLL abbreviate Zaire of Our Elders. From this source sprang an extended network of related acts known as the Clan Langa Langa, among them Papa Wemba, Bozi Boizana, Zaiko, WaWa, Langa Langa Stars, Choc Stars, Anti-Choc, and many further groups.
