Zebra, an American hard rock trio, originated in New Orleans during the mid-1970s. Their name emerged after the musicians spotted a Vogue magazine cover. The group soon captivated East Coast audiences through skilled renditions of Zep-like pomp-metal. Their assured self-titled debut album attained gold certification, fueled by radio rotation of standout singles "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door." Veteran producer Jack Douglas, whose credits include Aerosmith and Cheap Trick, oversaw the subsequent effort, No Tellin' Lies. Though less potent and unified than the debut, No Tellin' Lies still entered the Billboard Top 100. The more esoteric 3.V adopted a pop-oriented stance yet garnered minimal promotional backing. Renowned for their commanding stage shows, Zebra issued a live album in 1990 featuring two notable unreleased tracks. Vocalist and guitarist Randy Jackson, a formidable talent, later launched China Rain, yet that project, like Zebra, ultimately yielded to the rising wave of alternative rock and grunge. Following a long hiatus the band regrouped in 1997, resumed live performances, and finally delivered their fourth album, aptly titled IV, in 2003.
