Biography
Mika Risiko operates the experimental club project Ziúr as a Berlin-based producer and DJ. Early releases such as the 2017 album U Feel Anything? fused abrasive, detonating textures into irregular rhythmic patterns that retained enough discipline to function on the dancefloor despite their aggressive and turbulent character. The 2019 album ATØ marked a turn toward left-field pop, retaining force while introducing brighter palettes.
Risiko’s earlier tenure in the riot grrrl band Sissters carries over into a punk ethos that now intersects with the deconstructed club aesthetics associated with Janus Berlin and Halcyon Veil during the 2010s. In 2015 she launched Boo Hoo, an all-inclusive club night committed to varied lineups and a secure, hospitable setting for attendees.
Ziúr’s debut EP Taiga appeared digitally on Infinite Machine in 2016 and was soon followed by Deeform, a 12" issued by Objects Limited, the label founded by Lara Rix-Martin to spotlight female-identifying and non-binary electronic artists. She has also supplied remixes for Peaches, Air Max '97, and SHALT, and has recorded mixes for Discwoman and Resident Advisor.
U Feel Anything?, Ziúr’s first full-length, was released in 2017 by Planet Mu in conjunction with Objects Limited and included guest vocals from Aïsha Devi and Zhala. The 2019 mixtape Isn't No Place and All Places the Same Place preceded the second Planet Mu album ATØ, on which Risiko’s own singing featured prominently alongside contributions from Samantha Urbani and Ash B.
