Zuzu

Zuzu Stranack channels the raucous energy, melodic drive, and confident attitude of Liverpool’s Brit-pop and Merseybeat heritage into her own hook-driven indie rock. Her first single, “Get Off,” surfaced in 2016, followed two years later by the Virgin EMI release of her debut EP, Made on Earth by Humans.

An avowed admirer of her city’s storied musical figures, above all the Beatles, she penned her initial song at seven yet waited until fourteen before treating music as a serious pursuit. A publishing agreement arrived when she turned eighteen. Relocating from Liverpool to London, she assembled a band and began securing live dates. Performing solely under the name Zuzu and withholding personal details, she made her first notable appearance at the FestEvol emerging-artists festival in August 2015, then opened for Courtney Barnett at the O2 Academy before the year ended.

Hand in Hive issued the jagged single “Get Off” in the middle of 2016; the hazier “What You Want” arrived the following spring. With guitarist and producer Kurran Karbal in place, she maintained a steady schedule of shows and festival slots alongside a rotating cast of supporting musicians. Early in 2018 she joined Virgin EMI Records, which issued Made on Earth by Humans that June.
