Biography
Zydeco Force, an Opelousas, Louisiana ensemble, started out rooted in rural, old-time zydeco yet gradually shifted toward a funkier, bass-heavy approach informed by multiple musical sources. The group made its first appearance in 1988 with bandleader Bobby "Mann" Robinson, vocalist/accordionist Jeffrey Broussard—son of Lawtell Playboys frontman Delton Broussard—brothers Herbert on rub board and Shelton on guitar, and drummer Raymond Thomas. Their driving rhythms quickly gained favor among dancehall listeners across Louisiana and East Texas, leading to the 1990 release of their self-titled debut LP and, the following year, The Sun's Going Down. Following the 1992 album Shaggy Dog Two-Step, the band resurfaced in 1994 with The Zydeco Push, whose title track ignited a lambada-like dance phenomenon among followers. It's La-La Time appeared in 1995.
