Alexandra Levy, the Montreal-based singer/songwriter who records as Ada Lea, approaches her lyrics with introspection while frequently anchoring them in gritty guitar work and unconventional synthesizer sounds. Following her signing with Saddle Creek, she sustained a regular release schedule that included the 2021 album One Hand on the Steering Wheel the Other Sewing a Garden.

Before focusing on solo work, Lea took part in several local projects throughout Montreal as she developed her own songs. In addition to music, she maintains an active practice as a painter and visual artist. The material for her debut, the 2019 album What We Say in Private, originated after a major breakup; she devoted 180 days to painting, channeling her reflections into journal entries that supplied the album’s lyrical content. Saddle Creek, the U.S. indie label, issued the record, and after touring in its support she returned quickly with the 2020 EP Woman, Here, recorded alongside producer and engineer Marshall Vore, whose prior credits include Phoebe Bridgers. She wrote and demoed the songs for her next full-length during an artists’ residency in Banff, Alberta. Once more collaborating with Vore behind the board, she finished her second album, One Hand on the Steering Wheel the Other Sewing a Garden, which arrived in September 2021.
