Biography
Born in the Bronx yet raised in Syosset on New York’s Long Island, Adam Pascal nurtured a lifelong ambition to make music his career. He first pursued that aim by forming bands with classmates who shared his admiration for the hard-edged sounds of Pink Floyd, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest. His initial opportunity, however, arrived from an unexpected quarter: the stage. Responding to an impulse audition for the musical Rent, he landed the lead role of Roger, which brought him a Theater World Award, an Obie Award, and multiple additional nominations while elevating his profile within the theater world. That same visibility later complicated his return to rock performance, as audiences and industry figures alike tended to typecast him strictly as a Broadway vocalist. He soon took on another stage part in Aida, and at roughly the same moment he secured a recording contract with the internet-based Sh-K-Boom Records, a label devoted to issuing pop-leaning albums by theater artists. The imprint proved perfectly suited to release his debut effort, Model Prisoner, which appeared in 2000. The album centered on the hard-rock style Pascal had always favored, yet its commanding vocal performances also clarified how he had earlier succeeded in musical theater.
