Born to Mexican parents in Texas, Adela Dalto spent her formative years in Gary, Indiana. Marriage to the late Latin jazz pianist Jorge Dalto provided the platform from which she asserted herself as a commanding R&B and jazz singer. After sharpening her craft across countless nights in intimate New York venues, she gained wider international recognition through her contributions to her husband’s ensemble, the InterAmerican Band. On that group’s 1985 release Urban Oasis she served as featured soloist for the track “Ease My Pain.”

Her résumé includes appearances alongside leading New York-based Latin artists such as Jerry Gonzalez and Hilton Ruiz, as well as engagements with Mauricio Smith’s Latin Jazz Orchestra. She also held featured-vocalist roles in Mario Bauza’s AfroCuban Orchestra and Carlos “Patato” Valdes’s AfroJazzia Ensemble. Dalto remains active with her own ensemble at New York clubs including the Blue Note, S.O.B.’s, and Birdland.
