During his brief career, Agepê achieved widespread acclaim across Brazil by releasing eight LPs and CDs between 1984 and 1994. Belonging to the Ala dos Compositores, known as the Composer's Wing, within the Portela samba school, he scored a success in 1975 via the single Moro Onde Não Mora Ninguém. True national prominence arrived through the track "Deixa Eu Te Amar" on the 1984 album Mistura Brasileira, which moved over one and a half million units. As a samba performer and songwriter focused on commercial appeal, Agepê paved the way for what became known as pagodinho romântico, also referred to as romantic pagode. Prior to his passing, he introduced the samba-enredo "Essa Gente Bronzeada Mostra Seu Valor," created alongside Canário and Bira Caboclo, at Portela.
