Biography
Arto Lindsay, known for vocals and guitar, built his early name on avant-garde noise, yet that background stayed hidden once he launched the dance-pop outfit Ambitious Lovers alongside keyboardist Peter Scherer during the early 1980s. Having departed the no-wave outfit DNA, he merged the exploratory textures of his prior projects with Brazilian sounds and New York funk grooves. The band issued its debut album, Envy, in 1984. Lindsay and Scherer aimed for material that felt immediate and hook-driven, yet the ensemble’s boundary-crossing approach failed to reach broader audiences. Greed appeared in 1988 and Lust followed in 1991, though both records drew notice mainly within critical circles. During the 1990s Lindsay also issued several solo projects.
