After crossing paths by chance in Manchester via shared acquaintances a couple of years before, Belfast-born Andrew Bowen and Thessaloniki-born Dimitri Poumplidis discovered they had attended the identical music production program. Poumplidis then passed Bowen a disc containing his productions, prompting the pair to begin collaborating and establish the project in 2007. Drawing from their adopted city’s atmosphere, they crafted a severe, factory-edged strain of techno whose initial release arrived as a split single for the local imprint Mindset in 2009. Following a subdued 2010, the duo unleashed a rapid succession of records in 2011 on Black Sun, Horizontal Ground, Idle Hands, and their own vinyl-only outlet Inner Surface. Across those months their style crystallized into a distinctly shadowy, industry-driven techno aesthetic, earning swift recognition for both their club performances and live shows. Throughout 2012 and 2013 they maintained a steady flow of material on Brothers, Hidden Hawaii Ltd, and Repitch while expanding their reach via prominent DJ engagements across Europe and beyond. Early in 2014 the pair delivered their first tracks to Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe; the Kundalini EP inaugurated the association, the Dark Matter EP followed several months afterward, and Cosmic Microwave Background, their inaugural full-length, appeared the next month.
