Biography
Andy Snitzer, a saxophonist and composer working in contemporary jazz, entered the world in Philadelphia and spent his early years there. He began on clarinet before shifting to saxophone at fifteen and then enrolled in the music program at the University of Miami. Keyboardist Bob James encountered him at that school, which led to tours supporting the pianist and appearances on a run of albums that opened with the 1987 release Obsession. During the same period Snitzer completed an MBA at New York University, took a role at the investment firm J.P. Morgan, and established himself as a prominent session musician. His first headlining album, Ties That Bind, produced the NAC chart-topper “You’ve Changed.” He also moved into pop circles, joining the Rolling Stones on the road and recording with performers that ranged from Bette Midler to Aretha Franklin. In 1996 he issued In the Eye of the Storm, followed three years later by Some Quiet Place.
