Becoming the youngest Italian musician to claim the top spot on her country’s singles chart, Anna achieved this milestone in 2020 via her debut release “Bando.” Within a few years, her 2022 EP Lista 47 along with tracks such as the 2024 single “I GOT IT” cemented her growing reach beyond Italy, fueled by a poised yet unhurried Italian-language delivery.
Anna Pepe entered the world in the Italian coastal city of La Spezia, where her father, a local DJ, nurtured her early musical pursuits. Influenced by Western performers such as Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, she began uploading freestyles to Instagram and rapidly attracted notice with “Bando.” The track’s precise Italian rhymes over sparse production led to a signing with Virgin Records’ Italian imprint; in February 2020 the single reached number one domestically, making the 17-year-old the youngest Italian artist to do so.
Further recognition arrived across America and Europe through 2021’s “Drippin’ in Milano” and a 2023 “Bando” remix that included fellow Italian rappers Gemitaiz & Madman and appeared on the Fast X soundtrack. At home she strengthened her audience: the debut EP Lista 47 received gold certification in Italy and contained the Top Ten hit “Gasolina.” In 2023 she featured on three additional domestic Top Five entries—her own “Vetri Neri” and guest spots on Takagi & Ketra’s chart-topping “Everyday” and Gué’s “Cookies N’ Cream.” Her opening 2024 release, the partially bilingual “I GOT IT,” was accompanied by a New York City-shot video that signaled her aim to expand into the broader Western hip-hop scene.
