Biography
Apna Sangeet ranks among England's pioneering Bhangra ensembles. Fronted by percussionist Gurcharan Mali, the band forged a contemporary dance style that blends Hindi, ghazal, geet, and kala traditions. Their work established benchmarks for Indo-Brit music through Bhangra successes such as "Mera Yaar Vajye Dhol" and "Apna Sangeet Vajeh Apna Sangeet." Multiple cycles of dissolution and reformation preceded the group's reemergence on the Bhangra scene in the late '90s under the name Apna Group.
