Area Code 615 emerged in 1969 as a Nashville-based studio supergroup whose name referenced the city's telephone area code. Its formation followed directly from the sessions for Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline, an album that featured several of the musicians who would soon constitute the ensemble. The group assembled an all-star roster of local session players that included Charlie McCoy, Mac Gayden, Weldon Myrick, Kenny Buttrey, Bobby Thompson, Wayne Moss, Buddy Spicher, Norbert Putnam, and David Briggs. The same personnel performed on the band's two albums, Area Code 615, released in 1969, and Trip in the Country, issued in 1970. Afterward Moss launched the band Barefoot Jerry, while Putnam and Briggs shifted their focus to production work.
