Biography
Armi Millare, recognized for her warm and deeply lyrical vocal approach, gained attention through her contributions to the alt-rock outfit Up Dharma Down as well as through standalone projects alongside Norway's D'Sound. Her performances with UDD brought recognition for releases such as 2008's Bipolar and 2019's UDD. Additional honors have come from her contributions to cinema, where she secured the best original theme song prize at the Manila Film Festival Award for "Tao," featured in the 2015 film Honor Thy Father. With D'Sound she has issued R&B-infused singles including 2018's "Lykkelig" and 2021's "Run for Cover."
Millare entered the world in 1984 in the Philippines and spent her formative years in Manila, where she helped establish the genre-bending rock group Up Dharma Down in 2004. Their breakthrough arrived via the 2006 debut album Fragmented, which earned multiple NU Rock Awards, among them vocalist of the year for Millare. Subsequent well-received albums followed, among them 2008's Bipolar, 2012's Capacities, and 2019's UDD. Beyond the band, she has broadened her scope through multi-media performances presented as Munro and through film scoring handled by her own Stoa Sound production company. In 2015 she claimed her first Manila Film Festival Award for best original theme song with "Tao," from the drama Honor Thy Father. She has also joined forces on recordings with the Norwegian neo-soul outfit D'Sound, among them 2018's "Lykkelig," 2019s "Somewhere in Between," and 2021's "Run for Cover."
