Biography
After relocating from Vermont to New York City in the early 1940s, guitarist Barry Galbraith performed alongside Babe Russin, Art Tatum, Red Norvo, Hal McIntyre, and Teddy Powell. His time in Claude Thornhill’s band covered 1941–1942 and resumed from 1946 to 1949 once army service ended. During the 1950s and 1960s he worked extensively as a studio musician, appearing with Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Tal Farlow, and Gil Evans among others. Galbraith joined Stan Kenton’s tour in 1953 and took a prominent role in the 1961 film “After Hours.” In the 1970s he turned primarily to teaching. The “Barry Galbraith Guitar Study Series” was published under his name in 1982.
