While audiences appreciated the clear and fluid quality of his performances, his lasting significance derives primarily from pedagogical compositions. Despite its forward-looking title, the "Nouvelle methode" relied on traditional techniques when instructing violin bow handling. Innovations marked his approaches to tuning, setting them apart. Systematic organization in the material contributed to widespread adoption. Among his output were concertos alongside variations, solo pieces, preludes paired with fugues, and various duets.
