Biography
Among the musicians of the Danzi family, who originated in Germany while tracing Italian ancestry, he stood out as the most significant. Based in Karlsruhe following travels across Munich, Mannhiem, Hamburg, Leipzig, Prague, Florence, and Venice, Danzi earned the position of Kappellmeister in Stuttgart, a role that enabled him to concentrate on stage music, his greatest talent. The body of his work included Singspiels, masses, oratorios, comic operas, melodramas, songs, chamber pieces, along with the occasional symphonic composition. His ongoing connection to Weber introduced him to the initial aspects of Romanticism, yet the style of Mozart remained his chief inspiration. Karlsruhe hosted the first performances of at least three Weber operas, with Danzi providing both direction and compositional input.
