Biography
Hailing from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, Begum Akhtar trained under eminent maestros like Ustads Vaheed Khan and Ata Khan of Patiala, a detail preserved in the brief sleeve notes of her 1969 EMI India LP. Though counted among ghazal’s most captivating interpreters, she remains strikingly scarce on disc.
