Bill Stewart, a drummer whose primary fame stems from his work alongside John Scofield, launched his career as a bandleader with an acclaimed 1995 release titled Snide Remarks, which included contributions from both Scofield and Joe Lovano. His introduction to drumming occurred at the age of seven, accompanied by consistent exposure to jazz recordings during his formative years. Between 1986 and 1988, he pursued studies at William Patterson College under the guidance of Dave Samuels, Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid, and Joe Lovano. His initial studio effort came alongside tenor saxophonist Scott Kreitzer, followed by appearances on two commercially successful projects by Maceo Parker; after some independent gigs, he dedicated five years to Scofield's ensemble. The year 1997 saw the emergence of Telepathy.
