Biography
Billy Crockett, a Texas-based singer, songwriter, and producer, has built an extensive career marked by multiple albums, collaborative projects, and production work. He first trained in jazz guitar and audio engineering during his college years before securing an A&R position at Brentwood Records, the Nashville-based Christian imprint. In 1984 he issued his debut solo record on the Dayspring label, initiating a nearly twenty-year run in contemporary Christian music that also included the launch of his own imprint, Walking Angel. Throughout this period he maintained an active schedule of session guitar work across country, folk, blues, rock, and pop idioms. With Passages in 2004 he shifted away from Christian music toward a collection written exclusively for solo classical guitar, then delivered his first fully secular album, Wishing Sky, in 2009. Two years earlier, in 2006, Crockett and his wife Dodie established the 27-acre Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio in Texas hill country. The facility functions as both a high-end destination recording space and an artist retreat that hosts weekly group songwriting workshops, live performances, and its own record label. Serving as creative director and one of the principal producers, Crockett has overseen projects by Cliff Eberhardt, Grace Pettis, Beth Wood, and numerous additional artists. In 2013 he joined several other performers on the holiday compilation A Very Blue Rock Christmas, which drew material from the ranch’s yearly seasonal concerts. Rabbit Hole appeared in 2016 as Crockett’s ninth solo album, distinguished by its intimate and confessional tone.
