In 2001 the eight-piece Polish band Blue Cafe set out to fuse jazz, funk, pop, and Latin disco with hip-hop beats. That same year they inked a deal with Pomaton, the Polish imprint tied to EMI, and issued their first album, Fanaberia, in 2002. The record quickly earned platinum status in Poland, while its 2003 successor, Demi Sec, achieved gold certification on the day it arrived in stores. Two thousand four brought further recognition when the group earned Poland’s nomination for the Eurovision Song Contest with the track “Love Song.”
