Biography
Saxophonist Bob Reynolds maintains an active career as a jazz performer, educator, and sideman while holding a steady role in the Grammy Award-winning ensemble Snarky Puppy. He entered the world in Morristown, New Jersey, in 1977 and spent his formative years in Jacksonville, Florida, taking up the saxophone at age 13. Although his early listening spanned multiple genres, he committed fully to jazz study by his late teens. Following high school he refined his technique at Boston’s Berklee College of Music under the guidance of George Garzone, Hal Crook, and additional instructors.
Leading his own projects, Reynolds issued his first recording, The Bob Reynolds Quartet, in 2000 and followed it with Can’t Wait for Perfect in 2006. That same year he entered the touring and recording band of fellow Berklee graduate John Mayer, remaining for five years and contributing to the 2008 release Where the Light Is as well as the 2009 album Battle Studies.
Reynolds resumed solo activity in 2013 with Somewhere in Between, which topped the digital jazz charts. He made his initial appearance with Snarky Puppy on the 2014 album We Like It Here and rejoined the group two years later for the Grammy-winning Culcha Vulcha. In 2017 he released the Guitar Band EP, which included Kneebody bassist Kaveh Rastegar alongside Snarky Puppy colleagues Robert “Sput” Searight on drums and Mark Lettieri on guitar; the project entered the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums chart at number seven.
