Forq represents Michael League’s harder-edged second fusion project, assembled in tandem with Rudder keyboardist Henry Hey. League, already known as the guitarist and bassist behind Snarky Puppy, switched exclusively to bass for this new group and formed it with Hey in the early 2010s after Snarky Puppy and Rudder played several joint shows in Texas. The lineup was completed by drummer Jason “JT” Thomas, a Texas native and longtime colleague of League’s, plus guitarist Adam Rogers; the quartet then joined the GroundUP Music roster and delivered its self-titled debut album in 2014. After Rogers departed, Snarky Puppy guitarist Chris McQueen took his place in 2015. McQueen’s first recorded appearance with Forq occurred on that year’s Batch. The band’s third album, Thrēq, followed in 2017.
