Bob Scobey ranked among the leading Dixieland trumpeters during his peak period. His career in the 1930s consisted of numerous obscure engagements with dance bands until he encountered Lu Watters in 1938. Between 1940 and 1949, excluding a substantial portion of 1942 through 1946 devoted to military service, he performed with Watter's Yerba Buena Jazz Band in San Francisco, contributing to a pivotal ensemble in the Dixieland revival. Departing in 1949, Scobey established the Frisco Jazz Band, which produced numerous recordings, particularly for Good Time Jazz, frequently showcasing Clancy Hayes and collaborating with Lizzie Miles. Chicago's Club Bourbon Street, launched by Scobey in 1959, preceded his passing from cancer in 1963 at age 46. Reissues on CD of his Good Time Jazz sessions continue to deliver vibrant and spirited performances.
