Biography
Félix Manuel Rodríguez Capó entered the world on January 1, 1922, in Puerto Rico and later adopted the professional name Bobby Capo. Although he earned his widest fame as a Latin vocalist, he also distinguished himself as a composer and television director. After settling in New York, he rose to become a musical idol across Latin America and Cuba by the 1940s. Membership in the celebrated Xavier Cugat & His Orchestra proved secondary to the greater success he achieved on his own, delivering popular compositions such as "Piel Canela," "El Negro Bembón," "El Bardo," "Luna de Miel en Puerto Rico," "Sin Fe," "Triángulo," and "María Luisa," along with the ballads "Llorando me Dormí," "Sale el Sol," and "Jacqueline," the last of which paid tribute to former U.S. first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. During the 1970s he abandoned his performing career to join the Division of Migration within New York’s Puerto Rico Department of Labor. He died on December 18, 1989, just under two weeks before his 67th birthday.
