Biography
Bobby Militello stands out as a highly skilled yet insufficiently recognized reed player whose work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet recalls the essence of Paul Desmond. Local performances in Buffalo preceded his years on the road with Maynard Ferguson from 1975 to 1979. Between 1981 and 1984 he worked as a freelance musician in Buffalo, then continued freelancing in Los Angeles from 1984 to 1992, where he appeared with both the Bill Holman Orchestra and the Bob Florence Orchestra. Militello’s recording credits include sessions with Holman, Florence, Ferguson, and Charlie Shoemake, among additional artists; since 1983 he has performed intermittently with Brubeck, most often sharing duties with Bill Smith, and he has also issued several albums under his own name on the Positive label.
