Biography
Over more than a dozen seasons, the animated series Bob's Burgers has earned a devoted audience through its blend of quirky comedy, heartfelt family dynamics, and varied musical numbers, making it a standout among television sitcoms. The program often incorporates custom compositions linked to specific storylines, with contributions from creator Loren Bouchard among others, covering diverse musical styles that mirror the characters' personalities and escapades. Enthusiasts of the series have embraced these tracks sufficiently to warrant two compilation releases: the 2016 collection known as The Bob's Burgers Music Album and its 2021 follow-up, The Bob's Burgers Music Album, Vol. 2, in addition to The Bob's Burgers Movie (A Major Motion Burger Soundtrack) accompanying the theatrical adaptation.
Animator and writer Loren Bouchard launched the Fox series in 2011, focusing on the Belcher family operating a burger joint in a coastal community on the East Coast. Voices for the main roles come from H. Jon Benjamin as Bob Belcher the proprietor, John Roberts portraying wife Linda, Dan Mintz as the anxious older daughter Tina, Eugene Mirman as Gene the middle child with interests in music and bodily humor, and Kristen Schaal voicing the youngest Louise who sports rabbit ears and leans toward mischief, supported by an ensemble of recurring figures as the family strives to sustain their eatery. Early on, each episode concluded with unique musical pieces, evolving into integrated original songs such as parodies of boy bands featuring the made-up act Boyz 4 Now, Linda's impromptu singing, Broadway-style numbers, 1980s pop homages, keyboard performances by Gene, and a notable track from an alternate version of Seymour's Bay.
Upon wrapping its sixth season, the program had amassed 106 original songs composed and performed by Bouchard alongside his musical collaborators, primarily John Dylan Keith or the duo Elegant Too for scoring most installments. Sub Pop Records responded to viewer interest in 2016 by issuing The Bob's Burgers Music Album, compiling those tracks along with the opening theme and five additional recordings where indie artists St. Vincent, the National, and the Magnetic Fields offered their takes on select numbers from the show. Building on that reception, Sub Pop put out two thematically focused digital EPs in 2020—Christmas containing ten holiday songs and Thanksgiving with five tracks celebrating Bob's preferred observance—followed in 2021 by a Valentine's Day EP for romantics and The Bob's Burgers Music Album, Vol. 2 encompassing ninety more selections broadcast on the series.
This momentum led Bouchard and 20th Century Fox to develop a cinematic extension, resulting in the May 2022 theatrical debut of The Bob's Burgers Movie throughout North American cinemas. The film introduced three fresh compositions—"Sunny Side Up Summer," "Lucky Ducks," and "The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee/My Burger Buns"—featured on the accompanying soundtrack The Bob's Burgers Movie (A Major Motion Burger Soundtrack) from Hollywood Records, which also incorporated seventeen original score segments crafted by Tim Davies.
