Brent Bourgeois launched his stage career with appearances in Dallas clubs when he reached the age of 13. Once he finished high school, he relocated to Sacramento, California, alongside his friend Larry Tagg, and the pair established the pop outfit Bourgeois Tagg during 1984. Although billed as a duo, the lineup also featured drummer Michael Urbano and guitarist Lyle Workman. Their self-titled debut arrived in 1986 and yielded the hit single “Mutual Surrender (What a Wonderful World).” The next year brought the follow-up album Yoyo, helmed by Todd Rundgren, which scored another success with “I Don’t Mind at All” climbing into the Top 40. Despite signs of a promising trajectory, Bourgeois developed addictions to drugs and alcohol. When his fellow musician and drinking companion Charlie Peacock began attending church, Bourgeois joined him and embraced Christianity. Mounting internal tensions within the group intensified once Bourgeois started steering lyrics toward Christian themes, ultimately leading to the band’s dissolution. Tagg later issued two solo projects on the Damian label—Skeleton Crew in 1995 and Rover in 1997. Bourgeois subsequently focused on production and solo recordings in the CCM field, where he remains active in creating new material.
