Brother Phelps

Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
Doug Phelps, handling vocals and bass, joined his brother Ricky Lee Phelps on vocals and guitar to begin performing as teenagers, where they honed harmonies in the style of the Everly Brothers. Departing the Kentucky Headhunters in 1992, the pair launched Brother Phelps, a name taken directly from their minister father's nickname rather than any sibling reference. Asylum Records quickly offered a contract, resulting in the 1993 appearance of their debut album Let Go, a modest effort leaning toward traditional country instead of the rock-oriented approach they had taken with the Headhunters. The title track reached the country Top Ten, and several follow-up singles registered on the lower portion of the charts. Issued in 1995, the next album Any Way the Wind Blows earned favorable notices, yet the duo elected to disband the following year, at which point Doug returned to the Headhunters.
