Biography
Among calypsonians only Mighty Sparrow and Kitch have amassed more national and international awards than Rose. Her 1978 triumph as the first woman to claim the crown forced organizers to retitle the National Calypso King Competition the National Calypso Monarchy Competition. Lyrics from Rose regularly advance feminist perspectives, while the arrangements recall Antigua's Swallow through insistent cowbell and horn-section prominence. Gene Scaramuzzo notes that every album by Rose is worth hearing.
