Biography
Fitzroy Alexander, who performed under the name Lord Melody, enjoyed a prolonged professional path that began amid the initial phases of calypso music toward the end of the 1940s and continued through reggae works into the final years of the 1970s. His clever use of lyrics earned him acclaim, as he composed and cut several popular calypso numbers like "Berlin on a Donkey," "Jonah and the Bake," "Boo Boo Man and the Creature From the Black Lagoon," and "Hurricane Janet." Peak recognition arrived after Harry Belafonte covered his pieces "Mama Look A Boo Boo" and "Juanita," prompting Lord Melody to accompany the singer on the road. Toward the close of the 1970s, he moved in the direction of reggae, laying down numbers including "Rastaman Be Careful" and "Brown Sugar."
