Biography
Hailing from Liverpool, England, the pop group Candlewick Green secured their only UK Top 30 entry in 1974 through the single ‘Who Do You Think You Are’. Exposure arrived via the television talent contest Opportunity Knocks, where audience votes kept them on top for eight straight weeks. The members were Jimmy Nunnen on bass, Terry Webb on vocals, Alan Leyland on drums, and keyboard players Lennie Coswell and Andy Ball. Their recording path began in 1973 when Decca Records put out the single ‘Doggie’, followed by ‘Sunday Kinda Monday’ and then the chart success. The next two releases, ‘Leave A Little Love’ and ‘Everyday Of My Life’, vanished without trace, and the band soon shared that fate. Repeated BBC radio sessions, among them shows fronted by David Hamilton, brought no added stature and instead locked them into a middle-of-the-road niche that found no listeners. Saint Etienne recorded a version of the sole hit in 1993. Candlewick Green kept performing live until their official retirement in 2002.
