The Scottish rock outfit Cartoone came together in Glasgow during 1969 amid considerable fanfare, its lineup consisting of Mike Allison, Mo Trowers, Derek Creigon, and Chic Coffils. Prior to adopting their new moniker, the musicians had operated as the Chevrons and cut the track ‘Too Long Alone’ for Pye Records back in 1966. Over the following period they refined their compositional skills, eventually leading to a demo that caught the ear of Mark London, who in turn secured them a deal with Atlantic Records—inked on the identical date as Led Zeppelin’s contract. Contributions from Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin graced their self-titled debut, underscoring the band’s clear potential and prompting an arduous trek across America in support of the record. During those travels, guitarist Leslie Harvey temporarily bolstered the group, yet his decision to stick with Power (subsequently renamed Stone The Crows) prompted the disillusioned Cartoone to disband.
