Biography
Originating in San Diego, the vocal ensemble known as the Cascades specialized in a gentle, pop-focused approach yet achieved a Top Ten R&B success in 1963 with the Valiant single "Rhythm of the Rain." Guitarist and lead vocalist John Gummoe composed the track and performed alongside Eddy Snyder, David Stevens, David Wilson, and David Szabo. The group also drew substantial audiences across England and Australia. Subsequent releases "Shy Girl" and "Last Leaf" failed to match that earlier impact, and "My First Day Alone" likewise failed to chart, prompting a shift to RCA. Although the Cascades later cut sides for Charter, Liberty, Arwin, Smash, Probe, UNI, London, and Can Base, no further hits materialized. The lineup remained active into the early 1970s.
