Biography
Emerging from New Jersey in 1966, the ensemble projected an image closely aligned with Lovin' Spoonful Jr., landing a modest success via their rendition of John Sebastian's "Younger Girl" before securing their sole Top 20 entry with the original "Mr. Dieingly Sad," itself strongly reminiscent of the Spoonful sound. Their understated vocal blends and pop folk-rock approach sat in a noticeably gentler register than that of fellow Kama Sutra acts. While the bulk of their output originated from within the ranks, additional numbers arrived from Jackie DeShannon as well as Brill Building songwriters Pete Anders, Vinnie Poncia, and Doc Pomus. Between 1965 and 1967 they issued numerous singles plus one LP on Kama Sutra, their mild pop-rock remaining largely inconsequential aside from standout tracks. Once principal songwriter Don Ciccone entered the draft following their last Top 40 placement in 1967 with "Don't Let the Rain Fall Down on Me," the remaining members persisted through two Project 3 albums before disbanding.
