Biography
Although subsequent covers overshadowed nearly all of his catalog, Chris Kenner crafted several lasting New Orleans R&B standards, the sole exception being his 1961 Grammy-nominated chart-topper “I Like It Like That.” He teamed with Fats Domino to co-author “Sick and Tired,” which reached the charts on Imperial in 1957, yet Domino’s own rendition far surpassed it in impact. After joining Joe Babashak’s Instant roster, Kenner cut “I Like It Like That,” “Land of 1000 Dances,” and “Something You Got,” each buoyed by Allen Toussaint’s rolling piano beneath the singer’s gritty vocals.
