Biography
Chris Thomas, also known as Chris Thomas King, hails from Baton Rouge and pioneered a distinctive blend of blues-rock and rap. His introduction to blues guitar occurred at the tender age of ten under the guidance of his father, the swamp blues singer Tabby Thomas. By fifteen, he joined his father on tours throughout the southern United States, simultaneously developing a passion for rap music. Although he produced a pair of predominantly blues-focused records on Sire Records, his attempts to merge rap elements into his style met with resistance from those around him. Consequently, Thomas departed from his Sire contract and relocated to Europe for a two-year period, where he refined his innovative approach, connected with appreciative listeners, and collaborated on several recordings with Scandinavian artists. Upon his return to the United States, he inked a deal with Private Records and issued 21st Century Blues...From da 'Hood, allowing his hybrid sound to flourish without constraints.
