Collecting vintage synthesizers with fervor and drawing influence from 1980s film scores such as Blade Runner and Tron, Morgan Z produces electronica steeped in retro aesthetics through the Chrome Canyon project. Stones Throw issued his opening full-length, Elemental Themes, in 2012 precisely as the synthwave movement began to surface and gain traction. Following his scoring work on the animated series Infinity Train, Chrome Canyon delivered the sophomore album Director in 2022.

During the late 2000s Morgan Z pursued jazz studies at N.Y.C.'s New School, performed with the glam electro outfit Apes & Androids, maintained a part-time role at a Sam Ash music store, and steadily expanded an array of analog keyboards. After initial activity as a remix artist, he secured his major opportunity by joining the ultra-hip Stones Throw label in 2012. That same year saw the release of his instrumental debut Elemental Themes. A collection of remixes appeared in 2013 together with the EP Body Music. Morgan relocated to California, where he presented a live score for Fritz Lang's Metropolis at a film festival before creating the soundtrack for the Cartoon Network/HBO Max series Infinity Train across four seasons. Ten years after his first album, Chrome Canyon resurfaced on Stones Throw with the 2022 full-length Director.
