After exiting Keel, American guitarist Marc Ferrari formed his own group amid repeated setbacks. Proposed as Ferrari, the name provoked objections from the luxury automaker, though it was simply the musician’s surname; Cryin’ Shame, the next option, duplicated the title of a long-standing jazz outfit. Cold Sweat, drawn from a Thin Lizzy song, became the final choice. Further complications arose when original vocalist Oni Logan was recruited by ex-Dokken guitarist George Lynch for Lynch Mob. Rory Cathey stepped in alongside Ferrari, ex-Waysted guitarist Erik Gamans, bassist Chris McLernon, and drummer Anthony White for the album Break Out. Kevin Beamish’s production sounded overly polished, yet the melodic hard rock songs and performances impressed, particularly the guitar exchanges between Ferrari and Gamans. Cathey established himself as a capable frontman, completing a strong live unit. Despite US dates supporting Dio and their own club appearances, minimal further promotion followed, and the record vanished from sight. Ferrari later played in actress Tia Carrere’s backing band for the Wayne’s World film.
