Biography
Emerging from a Dublin neo-punk outfit known as Thee Amazing Colossal Men, vocalist Josephmary, guitarist Garrett Lee, and bassist Sid Rainey secured a Virgin contract that produced a successful lawsuit against the label. They then reformed in London as Compulsion, bringing aboard Dutch drummer Jan-Willem Alkema. While collecting welfare payments to refine their material, the group issued three EPs and scored a modest hit with the single "Mall Monarchy." Punk's raw volume and drive merge with pop melodic structures across their recordings, notably the 1994 album Comforter and 1996's Future Is Medium.
