Scottish-American comedian Craig Ferguson first reached U.S. viewers by playing Drew Carey’s malevolent supervisor on The Drew Carey Show, yet he remains best recognized stateside as host of the CBS program The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Born in Glasgow, he began his career as a musician in the city’s punk outfits Bastards from Hell and the Dreamboys, ensembles that both included future Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi. Capaldi encouraged Ferguson to pursue stand-up and supplied the moniker for one of his earliest stage personas, the folk singer Bing Hitler. That character scored a success at the 1986 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, quickly leading to television appearances—including an episode of Red Dwarf—and a stage role as Brad Majors in the 1991 London revival of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Ferguson relocated to Los Angeles in 1994, joined the cast of The Drew Carey Show for its 1996–2003 run, and in 2005 succeeded Craig Kilborn as host of The Late Late Show. His first American comedy special, A Wee Bit o’ Revolution, premiered on Comedy Central in 2009, followed in 2011 by Does This Need to Be Said? on the same channel. In 2013 the special I’m Here to Help debuted on Netflix, with its album edition released on the New Wave Dynamics label.
