Biography
Renowned as a premier interpreter of early trumpet repertoire, Crispian Steele-Perkins refined his initial technique through studies with Ernest Hall and Bernard Brown at the Guildhall School of Music. His first orchestral posts came with Sadler’s Wells Opera, later known as the English National Opera, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. A growing fascination with historical trumpet literature soon led him to collaborate with leading period-instrument groups such as the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Baroque Soloists, Tafelmusik, the Taverner Players, Collegium Musicum 90, and the King’s Consort. He has also appeared regularly as a concerto soloist. Among his notable engagements were the opening concerts of the tercentenary observances for Handel in 1985 and for Purcell in 1995, both televised from Westminster Abbey.
