Biography
Katie Jane Garside fronted the U.K. outfit Daisy Chainsaw as its distinctive focal point, projecting an innocent persona through ripped and muddied dresses that offered an unsettling yet magnetic window into the punk-pop quartet’s fleeting presence on the alternative scene. Alongside her stood bassist Richard Adams, drummer Vince Johnson, and guitarist Crispin Grey. The group first appeared on record with the 1991 LoveSickPleasure EP. One Little Indian soon signed them, releasing the band’s debut full-length album Eleventeen the next year. Garside departed shortly thereafter, explaining that the demands of sudden recognition had become unmanageable. Stripped of her intensity, Daisy Chainsaw lost its edge. Grey tried to sustain the project through the uninspired 1995 release You’re Gruesome, yet the group’s end had been inevitable for some time and Daisy Chainsaw faded away. In the new millennium Garside reemerged, once more collaborating with Grey in Queen Adreena.
