Biography
The performances and recordings of saxophonist, flautist, and composer Daniele Sepe serve as a meeting point for musical traditions from around the world. Although grounded in improvisational jazz, Sepe draws from an array of sources that range across free-form jazz, medieval chant, hip-hop, and electronic dance music. After earning a flute performance degree from the Conservatory of Naples, he pursued further studies in saxophone and composition. An extended stretch spent as a sideman with ensembles directed by G. Paoli, R. DeSimone, T. De Sio, and R. Murolo preceded his move into a solo career in the early '90s. The 1991 release Mulamusica -- Il Parco marked his first album under his own name and drew comparisons to the groundbreaking work of Frank Zappa and Nino Rota. Filmmaker Mario Martone incorporated selections from the 1994 album Vite Perdite into his motion picture Amore Molesto, after which the album received a worldwide reissue in 1996. Sepe remains active with his groups Art Enemble of Soccavo and Tuba Furious.
