Born in Turin in 1973, Italian post-bop trumpet sensation Fabrizio Bosso took up the instrument at five under his father's guidance. By fifteen he had completed his studies at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Turin. During those years he encountered jazz through big-band and small-combo settings, prompting him to seek out improvisation once a scholarship carried him to St. Mary's College in Washington. From 1993 onward his flawless technique and singular tone earned nationwide attention as he performed with leaders such as George Russell, Dave Liebman, and Steve Coleman. The following year his quintet captured Summertime Jazz's Best Band prize and soon entered the studio for its first recording. At twenty-six Bosso released his debut leader date, Fast Flight, on Red Records; the album prompted Musica Jazz readers to name him "Miglior Nuovo Talento" in their annual poll. His second album as a frontman, You've Changed, appeared on Blue Note in 2007 and reinforced his standing among the world's most technically gifted young jazz trumpeters.
