David Sun entered the world in Kent, England. Recordings by George Gershwin and Irving Berlin formed his first musical memories. His parents recognized his ability to play piano by ear and arranged formal lessons. He later mastered synthesizer, organ, tin whistle, and percussion through self-instruction. In solitude within his studio, Sun composes tranquil new age pieces drawn chiefly from surrounding nature—his miniature Japanese garden and its tiny stream, pond frogs in song, thunderstorms, a squirrel gnawing a nut, or droplets falling from the faucet.
Beyond music, Sun has published short stories, creates watercolors and landscapes displayed in multiple English galleries, performs as an actor, and entertains children as a magician and puppeteer. He composed the soundtrack for Tranquility, a 40-minute nature-scene video, while his 1993 Plant Music accompanied the BBC documentary Discovering Nature. His catalog appears on the New World Music label.
