Biography
David Vandervelde serves as a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter whose '60s-influenced pop songs reflect the styles of artists including Marc Bolan, the Rolling Stones, Mickey Finn, and the Beatles. The West Michigan native spent the mid-2000s contributing to multiple projects alongside musician and engineer Jay Bennett of Wilco. His first solo release, the album Moonstation House Band, appeared on Secretly Canadian in 2007, with Waiting for the Sunrise following in 2008. That same year he departed Chicago, his longtime base, for Brooklyn, yet soon relocated to Nashville after only a brief stay in New York. Six years elapsed before the arrival of his third album, Shadow Sides, issued after the death of longtime collaborator and friend Bennett as well as the end of Vandervelde's marriage, with the entire record captured solely on a cassette four-track.
